Where can I find contact information for departments?
The DAIR Department Directory contains information for active departments, ordered by hierarchy and unit name.
What should I do if the information is wrong for my department?
To request department changes, please fill out the Department Information Change Form.
What units are included?
All active units located in Champaign-Urbana are included. This includes some University of Illinois System and University of Illinois-Chicago units.
What is the department hierarchy?
The hierarchy in Banner consists of codes for five parts:
- Campus (1=Urbana, 2=Chicago, 4=Springfield, 9=U of I System)
- Administrative Rollup (e.g., B2=Provost Units)
- College
- School or Subcollege
- Department
How can I change my unit name?
- Academic units must submit a formal proposal through the Office of the Provost. More information can be found in the Proposals section on the website.
- Nonacademic units submit their request via email to DAIR. A DAIR staff member will follow up to obtain all the necessary information for the requested change.
Which employees are included in the staff listing?
All academic and civil service employees paid by the department, even those with a zero-percent appointment, are included.
How do I update my personal address or phone number?
Staff addresses and phone numbers are sourced from the Enterprise Data Warehouse. Employees may correct errors by logging on to My UI Info.
What are staff roles?

How do I update staff roles for my unit?
Staff roles are updated through the DAIR Systems Authorization Form.
What are the different department types?
1 – Academic Department
2 – College Administrative Office
3 – Other Academic Unit
4 – Interdisciplinary Research Unit
5 – School within a College
7 – Nonbudgeted Unit (courses) – includes subject codes only; does not have a budget
8 – Administrative Unit
9 – Budget Only (no people)
C – Chicago Unit
G – Graduate College Special Unit
P – Program within a College
S – Special unit authorized by statutes
T – Independent Institutes & Schools
U – System-Level Unit
